§ 74-173. Valve vaults, boxes and adaptors.

  • (a)

    All gate valves shall be constructed of the following material:

    4″—12″ Mueller A2360-20 resilient wedge value.

    2″ sq. nut open left.

    No alternates allowed.

    (b)

    All butterfly valves shall be constructed as follows:

    14″ and larger Mueller B3211-20 mechanical joint butterfly valve AWWA C504, 2" sq. nut open left.

    No alternates allowed.

    (c)

    Valve vaults shall be of precast concrete, laid up in alternate courses of headers and stretchers, placed upon a precast foundation ring six inches thick with an inside diameter of four feet at the bottom. The top of the foundation shall be at the same elevation as the horizontal plane passing through the axis of the pipe. The brick or block shall be set in mortar, with the vertical joints broken to provide drainage. The cone of the vault shall not be more than 36 inches in height and at grade shall accept the manhole rim and cover specified in section 74-174. The excavation around the vault shall be backfilled with granular material to be provide drainage.

    (d)

    Valve boxes and adapters are allowed in unpaved areas as long as there exists sufficient area to excavate without disturbing adjacent pavement and consisting of the following:

    Tyler 666S Cast Iron Box or approved equal must be American made.

    Valve Box "Adapter II" shall be Rubber Valve Box Adapter as manufactured by Adapter, Inc.

    (e)

    All valves in a paved area require a vault. Neenah R1670 or EJIW 1117 frame with non-rocking EJIW lid marked Water.
